FAQs

How does Educake work?

Your teacher will set you a quiz, which will usually be based on what you’ve been learning in class. Sometimes your teacher might use retrieval practice, which involves adding some quiz questions on things you covered a little while ago.

What is retrieval practice, and why is it used?

Retrieval practice is a learning process that helps people remember. The idea is you test yourself on something that you’re in the process of forgetting, and by bringing it back into your mind, you are more likely to commit it to your long-term memory.

What is the benefit of using Educake?

When you answer questions on Educake, they are marked straight away, so you know if you got the answer right. But you are also given a bit more information about the topic to help you understand and feel more confident about what you are learning.

What does “disagree with mark” mean?

If a teacher has set your quiz, you can disagree with your mark and send a message to your teacher.

What are the questions at the end of my quiz?

These are self-reflection questions, and they are a good way for you to look at what you did before answering the quiz question, so you can understand if you could have done anything differently. Your teacher will see your answers and can also give you feedback. Even if you get the answer wrong, the effort of trying to remember the information will help you recall it!

Why is self-reflection a good thing to do?

Imagine that you were playing an online game and you didn’t win. If you press ‘restart’ right away without thinking, you might make the same mistakes again. Self-reflection is like stopping to watch a replay of your game. You can keep doing the things you did well and fix the things that you didn’t do very well. Lots of people say that it helps to motivate and boost their confidence.

Can Educake be used for revision?

Yes, we know that a good way to help the knowledge stick is to do a little and often. You can quiz yourself in just a few minutes, and it’s a good way to remember what you have learned that day at school without it feeling like a big job. You can ask Educake to suggest revision for you, or you can pick what you want to revise.

How else can Educake help you?

We have two extra ways to help you learn, as it’s important to be able to study without your teacher telling you what to do. Educake is a safe place where you can test yourself without anyone watching you. You can use Revision Wizard, or you can use the Study and Quiz yourself area.

What is Revision Wizard?

This is a button that gives you quizzes which are personal to what you’ve been learning and how you’ve answered the questions. You can pick the subject, and if we have a study guide, we can read it first to help you. It’s a good place to start if you’re not sure what revision you want to do.

You can also learn new things that you haven’t done with your teacher.

What is the study and quiz yourself area?

This area shows you how many questions you have answered on topics and what percentage you have got right. You can pick areas to do and read any guides that are available.

How can Educake help me if I find it hard to concentrate?

We have new settings that can change the way Educake looks. Sometimes it’s easier if the background is a different colour or if the font is different. Sometimes it’s easier just to spend a few minutes at a time. We know that every student has different ways to learn, and we want to make it as easy as possible to help you learn in your own way.
