Celebrating women in history

A Gift for Our History Teachers

In preparation for International Women’s Day, we wanted to shine a light on some of the remarkable women whose courage, intelligence and determination helped shape the world we live in. As a small thank you for everything you do, we are sharing a printable A4 poster that highlights three powerful stories from history. It is perfect for your classroom walls, tutor rooms or corridor displays.

The poster features:

Mary Seacole’s Heroism 1853 to 1856

A Jamaican born nurse who overcame racial prejudice to care for wounded soldiers on the front lines and became known for her bravery and compassion.

The Suffragette Movement 1903 to 1918

Led by Emmeline Pankhurst and the Women’s Social and Political Union, the suffragettes fought fiercely for women’s right to vote, helping pave the way for the Representation of the People Act in 1918.

The Women of Bletchley Park 1939 to 1945

Thousands of women served as codebreakers, linguists and clerks, contributing vital work that remained secret until the 1970s.

These stories do more than celebrate extraordinary women. They spark curiosity, challenge assumptions and open up rich conversations about courage, equality and the power of collective action. We hope the poster brings a burst of inspiration to your classroom and supports the brilliant discussions you are already having with your students.

Don’t have Educake History?

We know that history teachers are under more pressure than ever to set meaningful work that students can complete independently. We’ve worked with history teachers to produce high-quality questions that increase students’ understanding of history and second-order historical concepts, but can still be automatically marked and analysed.
