Dear parent or carer,
I know that classwork, homework and exam revision can be a lot for young people to deal with. It’s also tough on families. If school was hard for you, or if life is busy and stressful right now, you’re definitely not alone.
Educake is a simple tool that helps your child do revision and homework in a quick and simple way. They can do short quizzes on their phone or computer. It helps them understand what they know, and what they need to practise more. Many students find that Educake helps them feel less stressed and more confident.
As a parent myself, I want you to know that I believe in your young person and that we have designed Educake to be a safe place that helps your child learn and be their best version of themselves.
Thank you for taking the time to read this guide. We are all here to champion your child.

FAQs
How does Educake work?
Your child’s teacher will set you a quiz, which will usually be based on what they’ve been learning in class. Sometimes the teacher might use retrieval practice, which involves adding some quiz questions on topics previously covered.
What is retrieval practice, and why is it used?
Retrieval practice is a learning process that helps people remember. The idea is you test yourself on something that you’re in the process of forgetting, and by bringing it back into your mind, you are more likely to commit it to your long-term memory.
What is the benefit of using Educake?
When your child answers questions on Educake, they are marked straight away, so they know if they got the answer right. But they are also given a bit more information about the topic to help them understand and feel more confident about what they are learning.
What does disagree with mark mean?
If a teacher has set your child a quiz, they can disagree with a mark and send a message to their teacher.
What are the questions at the end of my child’s quiz?
These are self-reflection questions, and they are a good way for your child to look at what they did before answering the quiz question, so they can understand if you could have done anything differently. Their teacher will see your answers and can also give you feedback.
Why is self-reflection a good thing to do?
Imagine that you were playing an online game and you didn’t win. If you press ‘restart’ right away without thinking, you might make the same mistakes again. Self-reflection is like stopping to watch a replay of your game. You can keep doing the things you did well and fix the things that you didn’t do very well. Lots of people say that it helps to motivate and boost confidence.
Can Educake be used for revision?
Yes, we know that a good way to help the knowledge stick is to do a little and often. Your child can quiz themselves in just a few minutes, and it’s a good way to remember what they have learned that day at school without it feeling like a big job.
How else can Educake help your child?
We have two extra ways to help your child learn, as it’s important to be able to study without their teacher telling them to. Educake is a safe place where they can test themselves without anyone watching. They can use Revision Wizard or the Study and Quiz Yourself area.
What is Revision Wizard?
This is a button that gives your child quizzes which are personal to what they’ve been learning and how they’ve answered the questions. They can pick the subject, and if we have a study guide, we can read it first to help them. It’s a good place to start if they’re not sure what revision to do. They can also learn new things that they haven’t done with their teacher.
What is the study and quiz yourself area?
This area shows your child how many questions they have answered on topics and what percentage they have got right. They pick areas to do and read the study guides if they are available.
How can Educake help my child if they find it hard to concentrate?
We have new settings that can change the way Educake looks. Sometimes it’s easier if the background is a different colour or if the font is different. Sometimes it’s easier just to spend a few minutes at a time.
We know that every child has different ways to learn, and we want to make it as easy as possible to help them learn in their own way.
