From awareness to action: How schools can lead on decolonising education

Tuesday, 9th Jun 2026  – 4:15pm-5pm

Educake is delighted to host an insightful and thought‑provoking webinar led by Dr Omolabake Fakunle, a TEDx speaker, Senior Lecturer at the Moray House School of Education and Sport, University of Edinburgh (UoE), and Strategic Lead, Decolonisation on UoE’s Curriculum Transformation Programme. She is a School Trustee, and also Executive member of the Scottish Education Research Association and the Society for Research into Higher Education. Dr Fakunle’s research explores inclusivity in internationalisation through a decolonial lens, and she is widely recognised for her expertise in helping educators translate theory into meaningful and practical action.

In this session, Dr Fakunle will offer clear, step by step guidance on how every school, department, and classroom can begin, or deepen, their journey toward decolonising the curriculum. She will unpack what decolonisation truly means in an educational context, why it matters for all learners, and how teachers can embed more inclusive, representative, and critically engaged practices into everyday teaching. Whether you are just beginning to explore this work or looking to strengthen existing initiatives, this webinar will equip you with the knowledge, confidence, and inspiration to make meaningful change.
